Declare Your Independence in 2010
PARTY AFFILIATION: None of the Above (NOTA)
In the current proclamations of both the G.O.P. and the Democrats, I find no coherent philosophy; other than whatever one is for, the other is most surely against. This relationship is as irrational and destructive as the famous feud between the Hatfield and McCoy families. For many, it seems the feud has become more important than doing the people's business, sometimes more important than the objective truth.
Our major political parties are now more a part of the problem than of the solution.
I have therefore sworn my fervent independence from both. On this issue, I believe Thomas Jefferson was absolutely right in 1789 when he wrote:
"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could go to heaven but with a party, I would not go at all."
