Let's Try Democracy For A Change
SUMMARY
"We have frequently printed the word Democracy yet I cannot too often repeat that it is a word the real gist of which still sleeps, quite unawakened . . . It is a great word, whose history, I suppose, remains unwritten, because that history has yet to be enacted."
-- Walt Whitman 1860
Sadly, this statement is as true today as then. We've never quite achieved Lincoln's ideal: "government of the people, by the people and for the people" -- and our elected representatives too often give us bad answers to the wrong questions.
You will hear the argument that a vote for any third-party candidate is wasted. I would counter that a vote for the S.O.S. (same old system) is a wasted opportunity. To provide my constituents with control over the policy decisions that affect their lives, to change the fundamental relationship between voter and elected official -- this is the core of my candidacy.
I offer a greater vision of what American citizenship can mean,
and a rare depth of public service experience.
